Users can easily add, modify and delete content on these websites.  PBWiki, JotSpot and SocialText are popular wiki websites.

 

Word Processing and Spreadsheets Online

Word processor or spreadsheet that runs in the browser. It offers everything you'd expect, including spell check, extensive formatting capability and support for dropping in images.

 

Shared Calendars

Time management web applications (or software) that allow multiple users to view and edit meetings and often synchronize the information with their personal calendars.

 

Online Collaboration

One-stop online tool that allows users to collaborate on projects, share information and plan events using wikis, workspaces, file-sharing tools, and web-based applications.

 

Group Discussions

Allows a group of people to participate in a discussion group using email messages. Users reply to the group email and the message is sent to the entire group. Similar to listservs.

 

Web-Based Conferencing

Allows users to make conference calls over the web, including showing PowerPoint or other presentations. Conversations can be online or over the phone, with the visual content online.

 

Meeting Scheduling

Online tools that record individuals' preferences for meetings and highlight the times that work best for the group.

 

Extranets

Websites that function as online communities for a group of users, generally around a particular topic.  The site genearlly provides access to a library of resources on the topic, allows easy dissemination and archiving, and allows users to interact via online discussions.

 

Second Life

A multiplayer online game that creates a virtual world, where users can engage in many of the same activities that go on in the real world. There is a functioning economy in the world, and a number of real world companies and nonprofits have an online presence here.

 

Social Networking

Allows users to share content, photos, blogs, and a variety of other tools with a select set of colleagues or friends. Users can make their information available publicly, or can choose to share only with others whom they invite to join their personal networks.

 

MoSoSo (Type of Social Networking)

A networking tool that allows users to see who else in their network is close to them when mobile, usually using cell phone technology.
