Extranets

 

Description

Websites that function as online communities for a group of users, generally around a particular topic.  The site generally provides access to a library of resources on the topic, allows easy dissemination and archiving, and allows users to interact via online discussions. 

Uses and Potential Benefits

The best extranets are a gathering place where people can find needed resources and provide help to others. Example: a foundation might set up an extranet for its grantees in a particular program area to connect, share information, ask questions and find useful resources.
